Our Story
Welcome to the Neighborhood!
Long-term residents of Dar es Salaam will fondly remember Hotel Karibu, meaning “warm welcome” in Swahili. For much of the 1990s, it was one of the few prominent hotels in the city and the only well-established hotel in the Oyster Bay/Msasani Peninsula neighborhood of Dar es Salaam. Back then, the Msasani Peninsula was a quiet expat residential suburb, and Hotel Karibu offered a charming retreat with social activities and entertainment. Over time, however, the hotel lost its identity amidst the rapid development and growth of the city.
Today, freshly renovated and under new management, the hotel has been reborn as the Peninsula Hotel – a stylish neighborhood boutique hotel with 45 spacious rooms, providing modern comfort, convenience, and security.
The leafy Msasani Peninsula has transformed into a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood, a walkable community that’s home to the city’s exclusive restaurants, al-fresco bars, and prominent diplomatic and corporate offices. Our hotel’s prime location on Haile Selassie Road places you close to all the amenities of the area, as well as the lively Coco Beach scene.
Loyalty is our biggest asset. Peninsula Hotel is a "home away from home" for our repeat guests, who return time and again for our warm and personalized service, spacious and comfortable rooms, and highly desired convenient location. As a true neighborhood hotel, we are proud to be frequently recommended by local residents to their friends, families, and business associates.
Karibu to Peninsula Hotel – where our warm welcome and neighborhood spirit make every stay unforgettable!
